Dana Staats launched Staats Design Studio, PLLC, in 1995. Known for his creative eye and inventive approach, Dana has over 25 years of landscape architecture experience. He has served the Triangle area since 1980.
Dana operates out of Chapel Hill, but his work spans the country -- from the Carolina Coast to the West Coast. His primary focus is high-end residential work. In the Triangle area, his portfolio includes Governor's Club, The Preserve at Jordan Lake, and Chapel Ridge. In addition, Dana has worked with several commercial clients, including Blue Cross Blue Shield of North Carolina and Southern Village.
Dana views landscape architecture as a creative process. His design philosophy is that the "best design exists beyond what we know" -- and he approaches each project with a refreshing outside-the-box mentality. Under his guidance, constraints within a site are transformed, and each site evolves into a unique and original space. He also brings welcome energy to each project and seeks to keep the process enjoyable and positive for his clients.
Dana's firm offers a wide range of services, including Site and Land Planning, Master Planning, and Site and Landscape Design -- with expertise in water gardens, Japanese gardens, and special design solutions for the handicapped and the elderly. A registered landscape architect, Dana studied Communications & Human Relations at the University of Kansas and went on to receive a Masters Degree is Landscape Architecture from Kansas State.
